Celebrating Volunteers’ Week: Supporting Our Local Community

Four colleagues from our Stockton Head Office gave their time to support a fantastic local cause as part of px’s paid Volunteering Day initiative, available to all employees.

The team of four spent the day at Norton Grange Community Centre, just a few miles from our HQ, lending a hand at the Norton Grange Community Pantry, a vital resource for local residents in one of the most deprived areas of England.

Our volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in, unpacking deliveries, setting up food counters, serving countless cups of tea and coffee, and tackling a mountain of washing up. It was a humbling and eye-opening experience, highlighting just how vital these services are for many in our community.

Inspiring the Next Generation at Local Primary School

Our Chief People Officer, Katie Woods-Ruddick, recently visited Skelton Primary School to speak with a group of enthusiastic Year 6 pupils about the power of education and the possibilities that lie ahead.

Invited by Andrew Stogdale from Spark Tees Valley, Katie introduced the students to the world of px Group and the wide range of careers available across our business, from engineering and operations to HR and Procurement.

Katie asked the pupils to group themselves by their favourite subjects and explore how their interests could shape future career paths. As they prepare to take their next big step into secondary school, we hope the session sparked some new ideas and ambitions.

100km in may for the power of women

We’re proud to have contributed to the Power of Women campaign 100km in May raising money for girls and young women in Teesside.

Thanks to the determination of our women's networking walking group at the Stockton Head Office, we were able to contribute a fantastic amount of km and money towards the campaign. Although exceeding the target for the month in the first couple of weeks, the walking group continued to walk supporting the campaign.

The campaign aimed to raise £10,000 to amplify the voice of girls and women in Teesside and create real change in their lives.

TGPP Student visit

Recently, TGPP had the pleasure of welcoming 15 engineering students from NETA Training to site.

The visit began with an engaging introduction from Paul Middlemas, who gave the students valuable insights into the site's operations, processes, and the vital role safety plays in everything we do.

After the briefing, the students suited up in their PPE and were taken on a guided site tour, giving them the opportunity to see first-hand how engineering principles are applied in a real-world, operational environment.

It was fantastic to host such enthusiastic future engineers and support the next generation as they explore career paths in the industry.

px Women's Networking Group

px is committed to harnessing relationships and providing support for the women in our business. Due to the success of these groups, we decided to hold an annual event, which was attended by Geoff Holmes, CEO, demonstrating his support for the network with the theme “Networking with Purpose."

We were privileged to have Joanne Fryett, CEO of NEPIC, join us as a guest speaker. Joanne shared her career journey with us and the barriers/challenges she has faced through the business world. Carbon reduction plan

established clear emissions reduction targets for each scope of emissions. These targets are designed to drive our efforts and measure our progress over time.

Energy Solutions go Beach Cleaning

On a day the British would call "bracing" & everyone else would simply refer to as "absolutely freezing", the px Group Energy Solutions team headed out in the wind & rain to Seaton Carew to collect rubbish, working with a local charity called Seascapes who work to raise awareness of the importance of coastal environments, organise beach cleaning & educate local communities.

Despite what looked like a clean beach from afar, the team were surprised by the volume of rubbish they managed to collect in just 2 hours, including bottle caps, straws, and sweet wrappers, as well as larger items like nets, lobster pots and an old tyre.

For those of you who have seen Blue Planet or the recent Planet Earth episodes will know the growing interest & importance of looking after our local environments, as well as the growing impact humans are having. SeaScapes Tyne to Tees is one of a number of organisations involved in the marine conversation.

px Group offers all employees the opportunity to take part in one day of charity volunteering work each year as part of their working hours.
