Stallingborough CHP

In 2011, px Group was appointed to manage the operations and maintenance teams at Stallingborough CHP plant. The long term contract secured the future for the 11 employees at the power plant, and the successful transfer from the incumbent O&M provider to px Group ensured that the existing skills and site knowledge were retained.

At a Glance

  • The 15.3MW Stallingborough CHP plant comprises two Siemens SGT200 gas turbine generators which exhaust into two supplementary fired heat recovery steam generators (HRSG’s).
  • The steam from the HRSG’s is then routed through a 2.3MW Back Pressure Steam Turbine (BPST) and/or a pressure reducing station to the adjacent Tronox owned Titanium Dioxide manufacturing facility based in Immingham.
  • Any residual power is traded by px Group’s Energy24 trading team under a separate contract.

Since taking over responsibility for the CHP plant, px Group has undertaken a series of outages designed to maintain and improve plant availability and reliability, along with several plant studies, and projects on behalf of the plant owners to identify plant issues and to improve asset integrity.

These include:

  • Development of a thermal heat rate model to enhance plant efficiency
  • Provision of electricity supply and offtake trading arrangements
  • Reviewing DCS upgrade options
  • Improvement in sensitivity and accuracy of metering
  • Solutions for IED compliance
