OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE

PROJECTS, ENGINEERING & CONSULTANCY

px Group has supplied engineering design and consultancy services to Fellside CHP plant since 2010 and has been involved in projects with a capital expenditure of more than £10m in total.

The 188MWe CHP plant has dual fuel capability (natural gas and distillate) and provides up to 250te/hr of steam, which is a critical process to the adjacent Sellafield nuclear reprocessing facility and exports electricity to Sellafield and onto the National Grid.

The role covers the following services; Project Development, Multi-Disciplined Engineer Design, Technical Safety, Construction Management, Commissioning support, CDM and Project Management.

px Group developed bespoke project processes and procedures with Fellside CHP plant for basic engineering, FEED and detail design services to monitor, measure and report progress across all projects.

All design and consultancy services are carried out by a competent team to the latest version of appropriate standards and consider all regulations and legislation necessary to deliver a compliant design.

Project Outcome & Results

One of the projects undertaken was the migration from Emerson Provox and Alstom Microrec systems to Emerson Ovation including the installation of the communication interfaces with other control systems. px Group were responsible for the management of the project.  The availability of the steam systems is key to Sellafield’s operations.

Therefore, to complete the upgrade in as small a timeframe as possible, we installed the controller cubicles in a position where we could pre-run flex-connect and cabinet power supply cables to the operational Provox system. This allowed full Site Acceptance Test of each controller cabinet prior to migrating to the Ovation system enabling us to migrate the six IO cabinets in less than 5 days where a full replacement would have taken 2 to 3 weeks. We completed the project without any loss of production.
