The purpose of Excelerate Energy’s® Teesside GasPort® is to deliver regassified Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) onto the National Transmission System (NTS).
LNG is delivered to Teesside by Energy Bridge regassification vessels (EBrvs®). the EBRVs utilise Exelerate Energy’s proprietary Energy Bridge™ shipboard regasification technology to vaporize the LNG onboard and deliver natural gas into the onshore pipeline via a shore mounted, high pressure off-loading arm. the facility is also capable of blending the delivered gas with nitrogen to ensure the specification remains within the tight tolerance limits of the NTS. All operational and maintenance requirements of the high pressure gas and blending system from the loading arm connection point through to the network entry point are managed and maintained by the px group under a long term O&M contract with seal sands gas transportation ltd, a subsidiary company of Excelerate Energy.
Excelerate Energy first approached px in 2005 with the idea to develop the facility. during the early phases of the project px were engaged to develop the concept and determine a method of injecting the gas into the national gas grid utilising the existing infrastructure on Teesside. the concept was finalised in February 2006. once designs were finalised other tasks included identification of pipeline routes (including a directional drill under the river tees), operational input into design reviews, HAZOP and HAZAN studies and full commissioning of the installation in almost exactly 12 months. the project was a great achievement for Excelerate, px and other project stakeholders and led to the SBGI award for innovation in 2007.
