Operational Management
Sample Image

The primary duties of the operations team are to operate the plant and provide routine, planned and breakdown maintenance on the facilities.  In addition to this they are involved in a supervisory or monitoring role with all major maintenance on the plant equipment.  We ensure, as far as practicable, that operational and commercial activities are closely aligned so that profitability is maximised without compromising safety.

As operator our main objectives are:

  • Maximise availability, reliability and efficiency of the plant

  • Minimise the incidence, severity and duration of forced outages

  • Prevent premature deterioration of the facility

  • Employ, train and supervise the O&M team including administration personnel, etc.

  • Comply with applicable safety, statutory and environmental requirements

  • Comply with the terms and conditions of all relevant agreements etc.

  • Comply with any relevant licenses

  • Comply with the terms and conditions of any insurances

  • Operate the plant in accordance with instructions from the asset owner

  • Carry out all activities in accordance with the O&M manuals

It is our aim to exceed customer expectations in all that we do.

We take a structured approach to the operational management of all assets under our control.  Country specific legislation and regulations normally drive the policy and procedural requirements.  The backbone of the px approach centres around our Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) management system.

Legislation

Our core suite of SHE management system documentation is intranet based.  Any changes to the guidance and/or principles contained within this system are instantly available to all of our operations as an update is made.  This ensures that our teams are working to up to date documentation and ensures a consistency of standards for our clients.

For each plant a set of specific documentation is created for the operational teams.  Once again these are dove-tailed into our core SHE system and would be intranet based to ensure up to date documentation is always available to the individual plant teams.

For each facility a business recovery plan and incident control/ crisis management plan is implemented to ensure that risks are identified and properly provided for in the overall management plan.  Should such risk events occur then the operational teams are trained to respond and act in an appropriate manner to minimise loss and contain the escalation of the event.

Paramount to the success of our operational teams is training and the development of competence. To ensure our clients receive high quality service, training and development is taken seriously. Upon joining px an individual’s training needs are assessed and a training plan developed.  Training plans comprise a number of modules designed to enhance skills and hence performance.  Once an individual has completed the first set of training modules to the satisfaction of their supervisor they would qualify for an upgrade to ‘Base Level’.  This process is repeated with further training modules through an ‘Intermediate Level’ to ‘Full Level’ each normally associated with an appropriate salary increase.

Operational Management

px also encourages its employees to maintain a work/life balance whilst retaining flexibility to meet business needs.  Employee hours are monitored and managed on an ongoing basis and minimum manning levels always maintained, to ensure a safe and efficient service.
